Situated in the south of the spa town, this little funicular railway is a popular attraction with local people and visitors. It takes passengers on a breathtaking ride of about ten minutes up the mountainside to Les Capucins, a wooded plateau area that is elevated about thirteen hundred feet above the town. The railway is the oldest of its type in France and was constructed in 1898. From the summit there are many great walking tracks that are popular in the warmer months.
At the upper station, in the machine room, large notched wheels are straight out of Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times.
