Queen Margot’s Castle was built on a Gallo-roman tumulus towards the end of the 13th century. During the Wars of Religion, in September 1585, Queen Margot and her lover, fleeing the armies of the King of France, took refuge in the castle. They were welcomed by the local Lord, who took them in.
After their departure their bedchamber was walled up and it was only in 1990 that it was discovered, by chance, with all its furnishings.
In June 1622 Louis XIII made a halt at the château before waging a battle against the Protestants. Today, open to the public, the castle allows you to relive this historic story in rooms filled with sixteenth and seventeenth century furniture.
Step by step you will follow Queen Margot in her flight.
